ongzhuang is one of Beijing’s biggest artists’ village comprised of a myriad of smaller villages located on the outskirts of the capital. Following the tradition of the former Yuan Minyuan artists’ village near the old Summer Palace, Songzhuang has progressed immensely during the last years. On one hand the population of artists – mostly painters – moving to the village has increased considerably. The village has also caught the interest of the international art world. It is not unusual to meet international art dealers, collectors, museums and gallery directors looking for new talent in this area.
From Songzhuang the CBD of Beijing can be reached in 30 minutes by bus and the Forbidden City can be reached in 40 minutes by subway. However Songzhuang remains a rural area where artists escape from the hectic atmosphere of the city, artistically stimulated by a creative and peaceful atmosphere.
In order to give foreign artists the chance to have a working experience in this creative world and to share views with Chinese artists and the local art world in general (art critics, gallery managers, etc.), TS1 will provide a residency program either for artists, writers, or art critics. The studios are located in front of Beijing’s biggest art space, the TS1 art museum.
The project will be completed before the end of the year 2008.
Four brand new 100 square meter studios will be available beginning May 2008 for a minimum period of one month. The studios will be fully furnished with a bedroom on the balcony overlooking the workspace, a bathroom and a little kitchen.

庄是北京最大的艺术区之一，坐落在首都近郊，由众多小区聚集而成。继承了早前颐和园附近圆明园艺术区的传统，宋庄近几年来有着飞速的进步。一方面体现在艺术家们（多为画家）纷纷搬迁至此，使其人口大幅增长。另一方面，宋庄也同样引起了国际艺术届的广泛兴趣。在这里很容易看到国际艺术商人、收藏者，博物馆，以及挖掘新人才的画廊主管。
从宋庄出发，乘坐30分钟的公交车可到达北京商业中心（CBD），乘坐40分钟地铁即可到达故宫。宋庄依然保留着的乡村气息，它让艺术家们远离城市的喧嚣，并在这富有创造性以及和平的氛围中迸发出艺术激情。
为了使外国的艺术家能够在这里有展示自己才华的机会并且可以和中国的艺术家即艺术领域中的相关角色（比如艺术评论，画廊经理等）分享交流经验，壹空间画廊为艺术家，作家或评论家提供相应的居住条件。工作室位于北京最大的艺术空间---壹美术馆。
四个一百平米大小的全新工作室会在2008年底开始进行为期至少一个月的工作。工作室会被装饰一新，将有一个可以俯视工作空间的卧室，一个洗手间和一个厨房。
