iu Chuanbao was born in Qingdao. Already by the end of the eighties, he was a active member of the avant-garde art collective there. His recognizable abstract style gained him many plaudits from prominent art critics of the time. Recently his creations have dealt with the subject of modernization within society confronting issues such as urbanization, the exploding population and China’s rush to redevelop urban areas. His paintings have a clear sense of self and can often be seen to represent his deepest and most personal emotions.
Painting is thought of by Liu Chuanbao as a consideration of the artist inside society. In this work, Liu Chuanbao gives us his vision of the urban world, and it is dark vision. He condemns and deplores the excesses of pollution, the increasing traffic in the city, as well as the concentration of migrants in limited space. This feeling appears through precipitous and sharply painted lines, dark colors and densely complex patterns. The painting is composed of 4 frames which together create a whole, however there remains an inherent tension between them and they do not spontaneously integrate with each other.

传宝1958年出生在山东青岛
早在上世纪八十年代初，刘传宝就已经是当地最激进的前卫艺术团体的成员了，并且是中国较早开始抽象风格绘画的艺术家，作品曾经被中国一些最重要的艺术专业杂志刊登过，近几年来，刘传宝更加关注城市发展所带来的污染、交通拥挤、人口膨胀、过度建设等问题，采用表现主义的绘画手法表达艺术家深刻的忧思，目前生活在青岛。
刘传宝把绘画看作是艺术家对社会的承诺。从他的作品中可以看出刘传宝眼中的城市生活是灰暗的。他谴责过度污染，交通拥堵和人均空间减少等问题并用急躁与锋利的线条，暗淡的颜色与浓重的图案把自己的情绪表现于画布上。这幅作品由四部分组成，他们看起来并不是和谐的组合在一起，而是相互抵触的，但最终表达了一个完整的概念。 |
