ang Yin’s artistic philosophy breaks away from the traditionally held position that art is eternal. The contrast between the classical image represented on the canvas and the iconoclastic idea which is construed by the canvas is striking. Mixing glue, plastic and pigments together, Wang Yin creates a temporary form of art. The colors peel off and slowly fall apart until the canvas returns to its original blank state. According to Lavoisier’s words, “nothing disappears, nothing is created, everything transforms”. These paintings do not vanish, they take a new form.
In a way, the artist’s deepest wish is for a new type of art collectors to emerge: those who collect temporary art.
Also in order his work to be collectable, Wang Yin imagines a frame shaped like a transparent box which visibly collects the remnants of the painting. The time process is an integral part of the creation, in the end reducing the art to a deposit of ashes, a reminder of the fragility of human existence. |
