Artist’s Presentation 艺术家介绍

ing Weidong was born in 1960 in Qingdao. Previously he worked as the designer of Qingdao’s biggest furniture producer. In the 1980’s he was a member of the New Wave art movement and was a central figure in Qingdao’s radical “Open-air Art Exhibition” which ran for almost 3 years. He mainly is recognized for his oil painting, but is also known for his sculpture and ceramics. His stand out creation is a series of over 3000 pieces that are drawn by pen then colored and which took almost 30 years to create. This work mixed a surrealist style with contemporary image resources. It is a tribute to his creativity and imagination was widely recognized within the art community. He has had solo exhibitions in Beijing, Taipei and participated high level art fairs like Shcontemporary and Art Beijing among others. He currently divides his time between Beijing and Qingdao.

维东1960年出生于青岛，曾是当地最大的家具企业的设计师，上世纪八十年代初参与当地的新潮美术运动，曾是持续三年多的先锋艺术活动“露天画展”的骨干成员，他主要从事油画创作也尝试雕塑、陶艺等方式的创作，他最具震撼力的作品是坚持近三十年创作的超过三千张钢笔淡彩手稿，揉合了超现实主义风格和当代图象资源，充分显现了他丰富的想象力和无穷的创造力。曾在北京、台北、举办过个展，参加过上海当代、艺术北京等高规格的艺术博览会，他的手稿作品受到很多收藏家的青睐，目前生活在青岛、北京两地。
